1962 Japanese Swimming tour of South Africa

In 1962 a team of Japanese swimmers - Isao Nakajima, Osamu Nakahara, Makoto Fukui and Morito Shigematsu - visited South Africa - which resulted in a world record. On 13 March 1962 at the Rachael Finlayson salt water pool in Durban, Morito Shigematsu set a new world record for the 220 yards breastsroke - which was the first time a world record had been set in South Africa. The tour ended on 26th March 1962, when the Japanese swimmers competed against Rhodesia and South Africa at the Les Brown pool in Salisbury, Rhodesia.
