Frank Gray was head hunted by the South African government to become a swim coach in Kimberley, South Africa. After barely three years in this small Afrikaans platteland town he produced a phenomenon - Karen Muir. He went on the become arguably the most successful swimming in South Africa, if judged by the number of national champions he produced. His own four sons - Simon, David, Andrew and Nicky - all became Springbok swimmers. Simon Gray went on the swim at the Olympic Games for Great Britain in 1980, before he too became a coach.
