Hartley, now called Chegutu, was a mining and farming town located south west of Salisbury, on the A5 main road to Bulawayo. The town swimming pool is dead, as is the pool at the local primary school. A private school was built after independence, known as Bryden Country school.

The school officially opened on 27 January 1983 with Mr Pete Sinclair as headmaster and 70 children.
22 February 2018 - Paige Van der Westhuizen had a successful Nationals Swimming Gala in Bulawayo this weekend: gold medals for every event, Zimbabwe Record for the 50m Freestyle, she won the Aggregate trophy and Overall Top Zimbabwe Girl Swimmer.
