Women and Junior swimmers and divers from all of the provinces, including Rhodesia, entered the event, which was going to be cancelled due to the unavailability of male swimmers away on military service. Northern Transvaal ASA decided to host the reduced program at the Central Baths in Pretoria.
Junior swimmers were aged 16 and under, so boys still too young to enlist but over sixteen were unable to compete in championship events.

The 15th annual Transvaal inter-schools gala was held at Ellis Park on the 23rd February 1941. At stake were the Relaince Cup for girls schools, and the David XXX trophy for boys schools.
